QUICK BUYER ANSWER
The practical answer
A cooler bag brief must separate external weather protection from internal leak control and thermal performance. Define contents, duration, temperature conditions, ice or ice-pack use, cleaning, liner construction and test method before comparing materials or prices.
Define the cooling task
State what the bag carries, starting temperature, expected duration, ambient conditions, opening frequency and whether loose ice is allowed. “Keeps cold all day” is not a complete test condition. Buyers should agree a repeatable thermal trial and accurate customer wording for the final model.
Specify shell, insulation and liner separately
The outer shell handles abrasion and weather; insulation slows heat transfer; the inner liner contacts spills and may need cleaning or market-specific documentation. Ask for the material and thickness of every layer, plus how seams, corners and openings are constructed.
Plan leak control and drainage
Discuss whether the design is intended to retain meltwater, resist ordinary spills or simply use sealed ice packs. Review liner seams, zipper or roll-top opening, drain valve if present and interfaces where handles or dividers attach. Test the complete sample under its intended orientation.
Review access and loaded handling
A wide opening improves packing but may increase heat exchange. Load cans, bottles, food containers or delivery packs representative of the target use. Check handle balance, shoulder carry, base support, lid operation and usable space after insulation is installed.
Design for cleaning and service
Ask how the liner should be wiped, drained and dried, and whether corners trap moisture. Include model-specific care instructions. Review replaceable straps, zipper maintenance and odor control expectations. Do not claim food-contact compliance without documentation covering the relevant materials and market.
Use this table in supplier discussions
| Review area | Buyer input | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Thermal brief | Contents, duration and conditions | Defines a meaningful test |
| Layer system | Shell, insulation and liner | Makes quotes comparable |
| Leak plan | Liquid use, seams and opening | Clarifies protection scope |
| Use trial | Packed contents and carrying | Checks real capacity |
Information to include in your inquiry
- Product type or reference model
- Quantity by size, color and artwork
- Intended use and required features
- Destination and required delivery date
- Sample, packing and evidence requirements
Frequently asked buyer questions
Is a waterproof outer shell enough for a leakproof cooler?
No. Internal liner seams, closure and attachment interfaces determine how meltwater or spills are contained.
What should a thermal report include?
Identify the finished model, contents, starting and ambient temperatures, duration, opening schedule and measured results.
